Scuff & Scoff in the Village

arse is outta 'er newfoundland beer craft beer tour in st. john's

Ready for your excursion ‘round the bay? Well, we’re not going to take you there. But Quidi Vidi village is as close to rural Newfoundland as you’ll get on this tour. Quidi Vidi Village (a mere 5-minute drive from downtown St. John’s) is one of Newfoundland’s gems, and it doesn’t hurt that they have a kickass brewery to boot.

On the Scuff & Scoff Tour we’ll hit up an ‘ol fashioned Newfie pub, tour the Quidi Vidi Plantation, take in the views of the gut (it’s prettier than it sounds), and then swing by Quidi Vidi Brewery for a tour, beer tasting and a knee slapping good time at their Kitchen Party. Our mouthwatering “scoff” will be provided at the Brewery during the Kitchen Party by The Jewish Deli, a sure crowd pleaser.

$100 to whomever can pronounce “Quidi Vidi” properly.

(Just kidding, but it’s sure fun watching you try.)

Duration: 4hrs + (you can stay at the Kitchen Party for as long as you want!)
Times: Fridays 2:30-6:30pm
Cost: $59 + tax
Included: Walking tour of historic Quidi Vidi area, beer samples at Inn of Olde, Quidi Vidi brewery tour, full tasting & kitchen party experience, meal at brewery, Beer Tasting journal, Newfoundland Beer Drinker Certification, new friends, great stories, and potentially a hangover.

*NOTE ON THE KITCHEN PARTY: In order to experience all the fun at the brewery, we will stick around after the tour & tasting for their kitchen party! Kitchen parties in Newfoundland are famous. But in order to hook into this party, we must line up outdoors for 15-20 minutes to guarantee entry (it’s a popular spot!). Please dress warmly if the weather is poor… it’s a good rule of thumb for any day in Newfoundland. But don’t fret. We’ll keep you entertained with a short history lesson, Newfoundland trivia, hilarious tall tales and tidbits of folklore that have come to shape us as Newfoundlanders.

*TIMING OF THE TOUR: The tour is officially scheduled for 2:30-6:30 pm but the Kitchen Party does carry on for some time after 6:30pm. You can choose to leave the area at any time after 6-6:30 pm, or stay on and dance jigs until the wee hours. While dancing jigs is not mandatory, it will leave you feeling like a true Newfoundlander.

*FOOD: The fellas at the Jewish Deli will be making your delicious food to order, so we have to provide them with numbers at least a day in advance. If you wish to have food included in your tour price, please order by 12 pm on Thursday to ensure availability. Tour passes without food included will be available until 10 am Friday, but there may be extra food available to purchase at the brewery if they have enough!

THIS TOUR MEETS AT THE QUIDI VIDI PLANTATION AT 2:30PM.

Disclaimer: There are only 10 spots available for each tour so book EARLY! If you have special dietary restrictions, please let us know. We’d like to be tolerant of gluten intolerance, but sadly, our beer options are not celiac-friendly. We do have a special price for designated drivers, though. You’re the real hero here. (Plus you can pretend you’re a taxi and charge the other inebriated guests for a ride home — win!).

    Inn of Olde

You can’t breeze through Quidi Vidi without a visit to Linda’s Inn of Olde. Linda’s quite the character, and so is her bar. You’ll try one of the classic Newfoundland beers here, like an India or a Black Horse. It’s a shed party favourite, and the only real way to assimilate into Newfoundland without kissing a cod (more about that later).

  • Connector.

Quidi Vidi Plantation + the gut:

We’ll check out the plantation and peruse the shops and photos there before a quick walk around the village. We love sharing stories about the area, even if they’re mostly made up!

  • Connector.

    Quidi Vidi Brewery Tour:

We’ll do a tour of the famous brewery and try some of their samples, including the legendary iceberg beer made from 10,000-year-old icebergs.

    The Kitchen Party

Our final stop of the evening is a rowdy Kitchen Party at the brewery! Be the first to find a good seat to enjoy some jig-worthy reels, and of course, great beer.

*We will walk approximately 1 km total on this tour (not including distance travelled while dancing), which goes off RAIN OR SHINE. We Newfoundlanders don’t stop for rain or snow, so neither will our desire to drink! Stops may change without notice.
